A fine and warm afternoon greeted the nostalgia loaded past Captains for the competition for the Gordon Clark Cup. Help the Aged were also in attendance to ensure all were appropriately cared for in the August heat.
16 golfers took part including Past President 95 year old John Mather. The excellent ploughman’s lunch ensured good slow golf swings and some fine scores resulted.
In 3rd place, beaten on countback was current SGC Captain Phil Williamson with 37 points. 2nd, also with 37 points but a stellar back 9, was Mark Terry. However, the winner with 39 points was David Hirons.
He said in his winner’s speech that he was delighted to have been the youngster in his 4 ball, ignoring Ray Smith’s legitimate claim to that honour.
David echoed the feelings of everybody on Captain Williamson’s wonderful hospitality and the outstanding evening dinner. The evening finished comfortably early to enable Help the Aged to ensure the elderly folks got to bed at a reasonable hour.
Thanks to the Captain, the Club and to the donor of the cup, Gordon Clark.
