The pandemic has disrupted day-to-day life in this country like no other event in recent history but hopefully by now most of you have been able to return to the golf course albeit with varying restrictions.
As I reported in my April update it was hoped that we will be able to resume events from August onwards. However, despite some easing of lockdown restrictions, social distancing remains in place and the limit on numbers at gatherings when dining is still an issue.
As our events exceed 120 people, socially distanced seating with table service is impossible at most venues. Not to mention any restrictions when using the shower and locker rooms. If clubs requested a reduction in our numbers the committee see no fair way of ‘culling’ three-quarters of the field so during the meeting held via Zoom yesterday it was decided to cancel Patron’s Day at Crowborough and the Autumn Mixed at Ham Manor. The Gordon Clark Cup and all county matches have also been cancelled.
This decision has not come lightly but as mentioned in my first newsletter on this subject, the well-being of our members is our absolute priority.
Regarding The Bristow Tankards and Annual Dinner at East Sussex National on 1st October, at the time of writing it is still under review. Having spoken with them they hope it could go ahead should there be a further relaxing of the current social distancing rules but of course, it will be cancelled if any set backs or new local lockdowns occur.
Refunds for Patron’s Day and Autumn Mixed will be sent directly to you bank. If I do not have your bank details I will contact you by email.
