Following the Prime Minister’s road out of lockdown announcement on 22nd February it will still be impossible for us to proceed with our events scheduled for the first part of the season . At the time of writing large gatherings for dining will be restricted until at least 21st June.
I have tried where possible to reschedule our events but due to availability at clubs and adding dates to our busy program it has resulted in a few casualties.
New Dates
Spring Meeting at The Nevill is now Thursday 14th October
Spring Mixed at Highwoods is now Thursday 22nd July
Professional’s Day at Copthorne will now be held on Thursday 4th November
Member’s Invitation at East Brighton is now Thursday 23rd September
Captain’s Day at East Brighton is now Thursday 29th July
Of course, if you have entered these events and now find you cannot play on the rescheduled date, I am happy to offer credits or refunds as required. With these date changes some extra places may become available. So if you tried to enter previously and was told the event was full - do please ask again.
County Matches
The matches against Devon at Willingdon, Dorset at Ifield and Hampshire at Lewes have all been cancelled.
My colleague at Oxfordshire is looking into rescheduling at Badgemore Park in September and we are in discussion with Seaford GC looking at the possibility of holding the match against Cornwall with reduced numbers.
57th Annual General Meeting
As the Spring Meeting has been postponed the AGM, like last year, will take place virtually. An email will be sent out to all members shortly with various reports and the accounts along with a link to a simple voting form. There are only two agenda items that will require your vote as the 2020 elected officers will remain in place for 2021.
Match Play Championship
The 2021 Match Play Championship will continue with the first round to be played by 4th July. This of course is subject to clubs allowing a four ball and/or member's guests. If you would like to monitor the progress of the knockout you can follow it on the website along with the random draws for each round. Those who have entered will receive the draw sheet in a separate email or view it on the website here.
Professional’s Day at Copthorne
Albeit now rescheduled for 4th November, all teams who entered have been accepted and no balloting out was necessary.
And finally
Hopefully with the vaccination program gaining momentum and if everyone follows the guidelines life should return to some sort of normality by the summer.
We have to play our part by observing social distancing where possible and minimising risk to our fellow members and staff at clubs who kindly host our events.
